Tsutomu Umezawa was born in 1975. He begin a photographer and advertisement plan direction after graduation in Musashino Art University and Tama University of Arts.
He won the gold medal by NIKE, ACG in New York festival, and also won the ADC prize by Nissan "MURANO".
He participated as a steel photographer in hollywood movie "BABEL" whichi Rinko Kikuchi became the topic by Academy Award nomination.
In addition to the advertisement photographs such as Katsumi Asaba documentaries or branding with Kashiwa Sato, now he perform the making of work including the participation in plan exhibition energetically.
The reason I started working as a photographer was when I was a child, directed by Obayashi, a "transfer student." The 8mm film scene of the last scene, the rough particles felt beautiful as a child, and I watched as ifI was sucked in. I remember wondering how I could shoot that for many years. And that feeling is still the same.
There are "photo rules" for me. There is a "photo that you want to see all the time". I still don't know exactly what it is, but there are some keywords.
"There is no creativity. The moment when you don't feel it was made is taken." "In the immature, the figure of a person who takes on the challenge ahead of his / her feelings and the change of his / her psychology (initial impulse)". "A subject in an active state with a will. Its facial expression.”
The following two have greatly influenced these ideas. The first isKeisuke Araki, who I saw at the exhibition in Laforet Harajuku when I was 20 years old in the1990s, "a photo of her hand pierced by her drip immediately after her wifeYoko's death." ?? I was confused, and my chest was grabbed tightly. Theself-portrait snapshots taken by HIROMIX with a "disposable camera"were light, free, dazzling (precious) and laughed. It is the beginning of"humor, experiment”.
My interests are also shooting "art, culture, fashion and music" and "sports as a physical”.As a Japanese, I want to stick to "TOKYO" as a place to live.
And now, I am interested in the existence of "influencer" whois an uncertain existence (unconsciously leading Tokyo) that covers themgreatly, and as one verification, I made it the theme of the photobook as a practice. did.
Through the shooting of photo collections, I met uncertain influencers, and in the world through the viewfinder, fashion and photography trends in the1990s became cool, and all teens through SNS. The situation in Tokyo as of 2020is that the masterful snapshots taken with a "disposable camera" are being transmitted one after another (self-expression activities) as a"good feeling".
"The times are repeating." This photo book left some nostalgia.
The "good feeling" may have remained the same now and in the past. It feels like the fact confirmation was a physical proof of a photo print.
And now, as one process of this pandemic, I continue to study and"humor, experimentation" and continue to photograph while being guided by curiosity.
